Are you ready to meet another member of the WeddingDates team?
We’d like to give a warm welcome back to our UK Sales Manager, Alix! Alix has just returned from maternity leave and is ready to, once again, be our all-star player in the UK. Having come from hotels, she is extremely knowledgable of the in’s and out’s of the hospitality industry, making her a valuable member of our dynamic team.
Take a look below to learn more about Alix, her sweet little family and her passion for the industry we know and love…
What is your title/position?
UK Sales Manager
How long have you been with WeddingDates?
Since February 2017, but was on maternity leave from August 2018 – July 2019.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve carried over to your current role from working in hotels?
When I was in hotels I was Sales Manager but solely responsible for all things weddings. I looked after all marketing, enquiry handling, planning and delivering the event on the day (plus a whole host of other bits and pieces that go with working in hotels!) Because of this I truly understand what wedding co-ordinators are up against on a daily basis and can relate to their specific challenges.
What is your favourite part of the job?
Being able to visit such a varied selection of venues – it is lovely to see how much choice is out there for couples.
What is your least favourite?
As I am based in the UK whilst the rest of the WD team are in Ireland the job can get a little lonely sometimes. To combat this I make sure to keep in regular contact with the guys via our WhatsApp chat and video calls.
What is your favourite or least favourite wedding trend you’ve seen over the years?
I don’t have a specifically least favourite trend but once did a wedding that used an owl as the ring bearer – being terrified of birds this was a tricky one for me!!
In terms of a favourite trend, I think it would have to be dessert tables and personalised cocktails – 2 of my favourite things in life anyway and a great excuse to eat lots of desserts as you have to try them all! I had both of these things at my own wedding in 2016. 😊
What are your hobbies/interests outside of work?
Having purchased our first house last year we spend a lot our time doing DIY (as well as dreaming up interior ideas that are way out of budget!) And of course, hanging out with my daughter Ivy who turned one on 7th August.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a ballet dancer and was at a dedicated performing arts school from age 13 to pursue this dream. Unfortunately, a knee injury stopped my dance career but I found my way into hospitality and weddings and haven’t looked back!
What are your guilty pleasures?
Bourbon biscuits 😊 an obsession that started when I was pregnant and hasn’t gone away!
What is your favourite movie?
Favourite movie is Back To The Future.
What are some of your favourite ways to spend a weekend?
My perfect weekend involves lots of good food and being outside in the sunshine. One of my favourite places is Brighton but I am just as happy in our garden at home – as long as I can eat and enjoy good weather, I am happy!
Name one thing you’d like to check off your bucket list and why.
To travel with my daughter Ivy – for our honeymoon, Tom and I travelled in the USA. We covered over 4,000 miles and visited 7 cities over 3 weeks. It was amazing to see such diversity across the country and I hope to give Ivy similar experiences in life.
If you could have dinner with anyone (alive or dead) who would it be and why?
Johnny Cash – I love ‘The Man in Black’
If money was no object, what would be the first thing you would buy?
There is an animal sanctuary near where I live that rescues animals from the farm/meat industry – I would love to have a place like this where people could come and spend time outside with animals. So I guess I would buy a large patch of land and start there!
