A new day and new growth for the WeddingDates team Mizan’s role is to further engage with our customer venues and growth. Having come on board at the start of January, Mizan is kickstarting the new year with new ideas and strategies to help drive WedPro by WeddingDates to greater success.
WHAT IS YOUR TITLE/POSITION?
I am the B2B Marketing Specialist.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WITH WEDDINGDATES?
Just over 3 weeks, I started in the second week of January 2023.
WHAT’S THE BIGGEST LESSON YOU’VE CARRIED OVER TO YOUR CURRENT ROLE FROM YOUR PREVIOUS JOBS?
I’ve mainly only worked for startup-type companies with smaller teams (less than 30 staff members) and the most important thing I’ve learned is how crucial the company culture is in the overall happiness of the staff. It also comes down to the management and how involved they are with the team’s personal and career development. Communication, involvement and feedback is fundamental for success and retaining employees.
I’ve also learned the importance of establishing a good base before scaling your efforts in order to achieve sustainable growth. Only once you have a plan or strategy in place that has proven to be successful can you start ramping up your efforts.
Another thing that comes to mind is the importance of word of mouth, a referral or recommendation from a loyal customer means the world to a company and it really is the best marketing tool. Customer retention is often overlooked in the chase for leads and new clients…
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT WITHIN THIS ROLE TO DATE? (WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?)
I don’t think I have been working here long enough to have a big achievement but at time of writing I’m just about to relaunch a newsletter. I’ve also received a few “job well done” comments so far, which is always good to hear.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF YOUR JOB AND WHY?
Meeting the team and working with them has been amazing so far. I was very nervous about joining a new company, but everyone has made me feel so welcome and part of the team literally from day one.
WHAT IS THE MOST FRUSTRATING PART OF YOUR JOB AND WHY?
Honestly technology lets you down at the worst times… So the most frustrating thing would probably be when the internet fails during a Zoom call but that’s about it!
WHEN YOU WERE A KID, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP?
I wanted to be so many different things! From an airhostess to a fashion designer, can you believe it…
IF YOU COULD WAVE A MAGIC WAND, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM FOR THIS JOB?
I still have a lot to learn, especially about the wedding and hospitality industry but my dream is that WedPro by WeddingDates will become an industry standard and that our team will be on the forefront of innovation and development within the industry.
WHAT IS THE COOLEST THING YOU’VE SEEN AT A WEDDING?
I actually saw the coolest thing this week, the bride wore a beaded cape instead of a veil and she wore it over this gorgeous plain white dress and it was everything… I love when people do something cool with their outfits or decor to showcase their personality.
WHAT IS THE CRAZIEST/WORST THING YOU’VE SEEN OR HEARD OF AT A WEDDING?
Anything to do with wild animals or birds of prey carrying or flying the rings into the ceremony is absolutely crazy! The worst I’ve experienced would probably be people not showing up to a wedding or cancelling on very short notice leaving the couple out of pocket.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE WAYS TO SPEND A WEEKEND?
Honestly doing as little as possible is sometimes the best way to spend a weekend especially after a busy work week. We also enjoy catching up with friends, having a braai (South African barbecue) or going on walks.
HAVE YOU ANY PARTICULAR HOBBIES/INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I have a small obsession with houseplants that resulted in a blog, Instagram account and TikTok account called NewDayNewGrowth. Apart from that I enjoy decorating our new build home, creating social media content, drinking wine and cooking.
HAVE YOU ANY GUILTY PLEASURES?
I’d be lying if I said no… Probably sleeping in on weekends and binge-watching TV shows, don’t do it that often but definitely a guilty pleasure!
IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT, WHAT WOULD BE THE FIRST THING YOU WOULD BUY?
I would take a year and travel the world with my husband. And I would pay off the mortgage on our house.
