I am a Senior in Advertising and Marketing Communications at Fashion Institute of Technology, New York. I hope to work in the area of Public Relations in the future.
Recently I interned at WeddingDates, a software company, located in Cork, Ireland. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, it was a remote position and I’m sorry I didn’t get to go to Ireland.
I was part of a team working on the company’s SEO project. Specifically, we were working to improve search on the site, to drive more traffic and rank better with Google. I learned about increasing traffic to the UK through developing keywords and writing content. The content I produced was focussed on regions of the UK. I had to research and write descriptive pieces about counties and towns in the UK and actually learned quite a bit. It was fun to find out about the unique history, landscape and the quirky things some places are famous for.
Although it was a virtual position it was still rewarding. I was allowed the freedom to explore and write creatively.
At WeddingDates, I got to work with another FIT student, Joseph Rivera. We had never met but it was fun to work virtually. Our Manager at WeddingDates, Sarah, was helpful and answered all of our questions. We also had calls during our time with Alix, UK Sales Manager and Yan, who is interning in Cork.
A highlight for me was when we had a call with the CEO, Ciara Crossan, who was sweet, humble and inspiring. She shared her ambition and what drove her to become an entrepreneur. I found this really helpful as I have a small business. She gave me a lot of useful advice and encouraged me to keep going.
Overall, working at Wedding Dates has been an educational and inspirational experience. I learned writing communication skills and how to professionally conduct myself in virtual meetings. I developed international relationships through this internship and I hope to stay connected with the team at WeddingDates in the future.
