A new industry survey didn’t just ask if people in hospitality are stressed. It asked who’s expected to hold everyone else’s stress too.
Ask anyone who’s managed a hospitality team through a wedding season what actually wears them down, and it’s rarely the wedding itself. It’s everything that sits underneath it, covering last minute gaps in the rota, being the first person a struggling colleague turns to, holding a team together while somehow doing the same for yourself. Hospitality Action’s 2026 Taking the Temperature survey, has put a number on that. Almost two thirds, 65%, of hospitality managers who’ve experienced a mental health issue as an adult say the job is what triggered it. Not made it harder to manage. Triggered it.
It doesn’t stop at their own wellbeing
In the past year, 40% of hospitality professionals were asked to support a colleague going through a mental health challenge. Among managers, that climbs to 61%. So the same people carrying pressure of their own are also the ones everyone else turns to when they’re struggling. There’s no tidy line between “my mental health” and “the team’s mental health” when you’re the manager, you’re holding both, whether or not that was ever written into the job description.
The only support most managers can give is time
83% say the main support they give a struggling colleague is simply taking the time to listen. Not formal training, not a structured intervention, time. Almost half, 47%, said what they’d actually want is more management training, specifically the kind that helps them recognise and respond to a colleague’s wellbeing before it escalates. But neither of those, more listening or better training, is something a manager can just decide to do more of, both need time they don’t have. And it shows, the two things managers said they’re most worried about over the next 12 months are maintaining their own work life balance, and protecting their own mental wellbeing. The thing they’re being asked to give more of for everyone else is the exact thing they’re most afraid of running out of themselves.
How WedPro gives that time back
WedPro is the CRM built to take the admin end of enquiries and bookings off a venue team’s plate. A manager still has to have that corridor conversation themselves. What WedPro can do is clear enough admin off their day that there’s actually time for it.
A few examples of what that looks like:
✔️ Automated enquiry replies. Couples often enquire out of hours and expect a fast reply. WedPro sends an instant response with the wedding brochure attached to every enquiry, no matter where it came from.
✔️ Follow-ups queued up and ready to go. Nurture emails are lined up at exactly the right touchpoint, so the team logs in, sees what’s due, and sends the whole list in one click, no digging through inboxes trying to remember who’s next.
✔️ One pipeline for every enquiry. New, In Hand, Long Lead, Provisional, Showround, Booked, Lost, Discarded, so anyone on the team can see exactly where a couple sits without asking around.
✔️ No handover panic when someone’s out. Showround calendars and enquiry reminders are visible to the whole team, so cover isn’t guesswork.
✔️ Clear reporting, no guesswork. One less thing a manager has to hold in their head at the end of the day. No time wasted collating data from an Excel spreadsheet to build a HOD report at the end of each month or ahead of an owners meeting.
None of this is really about a CRM though. It’s about the fact that a large share of the people managing hospitality teams right now are running on far less than they’re giving out. Better tools help. So does better training, and workplaces that actually notice when someone’s struggling before they have to ask. But the smallest, most immediate thing any of us can do is make sure that when a manager finally does have a moment to listen to someone else, they’ve got a bit left over for themselves too.
