Who are you marketing to?
If you’re currently experiencing a slowdown in your enquiries, rest assured that you’re not alone! Our industry survey reveals that couples are sending fewer enquiries than ever before across the board. The majority of couples, around 65% in the UK and 72% in Ireland are now sending five or fewer enquiries, showing an increase of approximately 25% compared to last year.
While there are several external factors influencing this trend that are beyond your control, we understand how frustrating it can be. However, there’s a mantra I’ve found particularly helpful in recent years: “Control the controllable.” And that’s where you and your processes come in.
Gone are the days of blanket reach. Couples are now more targeted and research-oriented, which means there’s a greater need for proactive selling. It’s about attracting the right enquiries and quality leads from the outset, and then going above and beyond to nurture and convert that business.
Demographics Are Key
According to the results of our 2023 survey, the largest age group by a considerable margin is between 25 to 34 years old, with the 35 to 44 year old segment showing the fastest growth. These findings indicate that in 2023 if your venue is located in Ireland or the UK, it is vital to concentrate on appealing to the Millennial mindset, which generally encompasses individuals between the ages of 25 to 40.
In addition to traditional weddings involving brides and grooms, it is important to acknowledge and embrace the market for same-sex weddings. Ensure that your venue portrays itself as inclusive to all couples. By showcasing your venue as a welcoming space for all couples, you open yourself up to a broader customer base.
If you want to determine your realistic share of the market, you can consult the Central Statistics Office (CSO) for Ireland or your local Registry office in the UK. By finding out the number of weddings taking place in your area and dividing it by the number of venues, you can gain valuable insights into your market share.
Marketing In The Right Places: Harnessing the Power of Social Media for Your Wedding Venue
In today’s digital age, couples turn to online platforms to explore and envision their dream wedding. Understanding the importance of reaching your target audience and where they spend their time, social media becomes a valuable tool for showcasing your venue and connecting with potential clients.
Instagram, with its massive user base, presents a prime opportunity to showcase your venue and engage with couples. By aligning your content with their priorities, you can create a captivating online presence that resonates with your target audience.
It’s essential to keep an eye on the future and nurture a healthy sales pipeline. While millennials are currently our main focus, we must also consider Gen Z, the next generation of couples. The exponential growth of TikTok, popular among Gen Z, offers new avenues for connecting with this emerging market.
To effectively leverage social media, let’s explore some practical examples:
- Share “Wedding Tips”: Position yourself as an expert by offering valuable advice and insights that couples find indispensable. Use popular hashtags like #WeddingWednesday to maximise your reach and engagement.
- Embrace the power of video: Video is a captivating medium that allows you to showcase your venue’s personality and provide an immersive experience. Consider sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses, day-in-the-life stories of your wedding coordinator, or highlights of setting up a wedding. You don’t always need professional production; simple yet authentic videos can make a lasting impact.
- Use peer-to-peer content: Tap into the trust-building potential of user-generated content. Encourage couples to share their experiences at your venue. This fosters a sense of community and showcases real weddings, enhancing your credibility.
Additionally, it’s beneficial to maintain a separate wedding-focused account on platforms like Instagram and Pinterest. This ensures that your wedding-related content remains distinct and visible, catering to couples’ specific interests while preserving the visibility of your main venue page.
By strategically using social media, you can position your venue in front of the right audience, establish your expertise, and build trust with couples as they embark on their wedding planning journey.
Highlight Your Assets
Here are the key points and techniques to effectively highlight your venue’s assets and appeal to couples’ priorities:
Real vs. Staged Imagery:
- Include a mix of real wedding photos to capture genuine emotions.
- Help couples envision themselves celebrating at your venue with family and friends.
- Showcase a wide variety of couples to appeal to diverse audiences.
Seasonality Showcase:
- Highlight specific types of weddings to fill more autumn/winter dates.
- Display images that depict the unique charm and ambience of each season.
Clear and High-Quality Imagery:
- Ensure your visuals are crisp, clear, and of high resolution.
- Avoid using low-resolution or blurry images that may deter couples.
Embrace Diversity:
- Showcase couples from different backgrounds, races, ages, and same-sex couples.
- Create an inclusive atmosphere that resonates with a wide range of couples.
Captivating Leading Image:
- Select an eye-catching image that entices viewers to explore further.
- Highlight your venue’s unique selling proposition (USP) to pique interest.
By implementing these techniques, you can elevate your visual marketing and effectively communicate the strengths of your venue. Captivating imagery, real wedding moments, diversity, and a clear focus on your USP will help you stand out and attract couples who resonate with your offerings.
